For more information about the deepblue Summer School check out the Summer School Info Sheet and if you need to print it out download the Print Version of the Info Sheet. Fully Booked - Registrations now closed. Summer School 2012youngblue on tourdeepblue is passionate about encouraging young people to experience a new way of playing music and have conducted workshops across Australia that have inspired thousands of young string players to approach their instrument with fun and physicality. So, in every performance we include a spot for young musicians to perform with us on stage. We ask local schools and organisations in all the towns we visit to become part of the show for an experience of their lifetime. The reaction from the schools, teachers, parents but especially the children has been overwhelming. As part of the youngblue program, in the lead-up to the show, students learn and rehearse a piece, working with their usual ensemble leaders and teachers. On the day of the show, the youngblue players meet and rehearse with all the performers and crew of deepblue, experience backstage at a professional concert and actually perform what they have rehearsed in the show. youngblue workshops on touryoungblue learn and rehearse a piece (for example ABBA's 'I Have a Dream') in the lead up to the show in your town, working with their usual ensemble director and/or private teachers with the online materials. On the day of the show, youngblue meets and rehearses with deepblue and performs in the second half of the show. The 1hour workshop provides young string players with an opportunity to experience our unique approach to music performance; choregraphing movement to the lively tune 'bollywood 7'. The class is run by members of deepblue and is a fun and exciting way to embrace music. Beginners are welcome. The deepblue youth programs are entertaining, inspirational and a lot of fun. If you are looking for your string players to be inspired than this is your answer!! check out some of the comments we’ve received from youngblue participants and schools:
“Our Junior School girls performed with deepblue in Concert in February 2008. They diligently learnt their parts and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing with "real (young and cool) musicians" in a public concert. The reaction from the crowd was great and the girls said they "felt like rock stars." Our string program here at Somerville House is steeped in classical traditions and I was more than happy to give the girls an experience which was a bit different. In short, I would recommend the deepblue Experience as a positive one and would certainly involve our girls again.” Loreta Fin, Director of Instrumental Music, Somerville House. AUSTA Q Past President.
“I would never have come to the show if my daughter hadn't been participating in youngblue but it's been the musical experience of the year so far. Love the concept of mixing electronics, classical music and theatre. Favourite pieces - Flying Dream, the unplugged quartet. Really appreciate the generosity of the performers in working with a group of children in the afternoon and putting them into the show - great teaching and inspiration. Reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil even before the stilt-walking - I expected to see someone doing a one-armed handstand.” Simon - email Canberra
“Awesome! No one can be told about deepblue ... they must experience themselves. youngblue were terrific, great to hear and see the next generation”- SMS from Queensland Performing Arts Centre audience member
“Great to see the young ones showing off their talent. They are fabulous. Rock on youngblue” - SMS from Sydney State Theatre audience member
“This orchestra has the potential to effect a phenomenal change in the way that young people in particular view orchestral music” – email from Gold Coast audience member
I hope many of your students will take up the opportunity to be part of youngblue and I look forward to hearing from you soon. |
